Basic Picnic Table Plans for Beginners

Ah, an outdoor picnic round the table In the Fall! Sounds great.. Organizing parties in your backyard can be a real blast; a source of a great fun and a perfect opportunity to enjoy some good fellowship with your friends.  I need to find some...

Woodworking Plans for Picnic Tables

Last year I ran into a common problem; not enough sitting room. The success of events like this rely on your guests ability to comfortably sit and chat with their friends and enjoy the food and wine. So a few months ago, I searched the Internet to see if I could find some plans to build for a picnic table. What I found took my breath away. If you do not have one at present, you can make one with the help of good plans. If you are a beginner to do-it-yourself jobs and woodworking projects, basic picnic table plans would be the logical choice.

Important Considerations
When you're considering which basic picnic table plans you want, you should consider this. As you are a beginner to building from woodworking plans, you should use a simple top, either rectangular or square. The legs should be sturdy but not clumsy or complicated. You may want to select features like attached benches and an umbrella because it's just basic construction. On the other hand, an adjustable or strangely shaped construction should probably be avoided just to keep things simple on the first time out..

Materials & Tools
While building your basic table, here are a few practical tips to be kept in mind:
  • use wood which can withstand all sorts of weather conditions. Examples are redwood, cypress, cedar and teak.
  • if you use a soft wood such as pine, you must paint it it to give it added protection.
  • if you use reclaimed lumber, make sure it has not been treated with chemicals or pesticides
The hardware used should also be tough enough to stand up to the elements. This means you must use oxidation-resistant galvanized or blackened bolts or screws. Even though they cost slightly more than normal hardware, they are well worth the small extra cost.

Construction Planning
While this is an easy woodworking project to complete, none-the-less, it is a fairly large project,. Give some thought to make sure you have enough space to work with, while constructing your basic picnic table. One option is to work outdoors in a driveway or on a patio using a pair of saw horses. The only thing to watch out for is rain and wind. You don't need sawdust blowing into the house

Practice Safety First
While building a basic picnic table is a drop-dead simple project, you should still employ the all the standard safety precautions. It's important that you always wear protective goggles and a respirator while cutting wood, or when using spray paints or sealers. Always make sure that someone is around when you;re using an electric saw, in case of an emergency.

A Final Word on The Importance of Plans
( A lesson I learned the hard way)
You may be tempted to build this basic picnic table by yourself, without the help of plans. Perhaps, you intend to make the drawings and plans yourself. I like you. You think like me. However. even though I'm no longer a beginner, I will never again start a project without a a full set of professionally prepared plans There are too many opportunities to mess it up and either end up with a structurally unsafe and unusable picnic table , or you may never complete the project at all. By relying on a good set of plans prepared by experts, you'll receive expert guidance and plenty of confidence to undertake and complete the project to your satisfaction. Then you can get on to the real joy... a fantastic time in the back yard just enjoying life with friends and family.

By making a basic picnic table with the help of plans, you would not only be assured of great parties and picnics, but you would also be taking the first steps towards a thoroughly enjoyable hobby, which can save you tons of money over time; It's true and in fact. I've been asked to build one for my brother-in-law and he's actually going to pay me for doing it.
